After practicing and teaching yoga for several years (she taught at YogaWorks on Larchmont (formerly the Center for Yoga) and YMI Yoga in Los Angeles, Omadawn in Long Beach, and several studios in St. Louis),
Melissa Cole Essig became a YogaMama in December 2006. Nine months later, she found herself wondering when she got to be more than just a YogaMama — when she got to be a YogaMamaMe. In March 2008, she began blogging about how being a mother, while great and all, was making her lose her mindfulness. She started this website in June 2008 to create a community of like-minded moms who are willing to laugh as they search for mindfulness in motherhood.
Melissa’s essays have appeared in Newsweek and The Long Beach Press-Telegram. Her unpublished novel, Long Beach Baby, was named a semi-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award contest. She is currently working on YogaMamaMe: How to Be Mindful When Your Mind Is on Your Baby.
Melissa lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband, son, and two hound dogs. You can find out other stuff about her from her posts.
